Beauty Review: Huda Beauty Lip Contour Set

Wednesday, October 04, 2017

I'm so, so excited to be sharing this review right here on my blog today 'coz I've been recently following Huda Beauty on Instagram and I love this woman! A blogger turned entrepreneur, she s definitely super talented, and I love the looks she often shares on her Instagram!

Apparently, she has her own makeup line and uses them quite often in her makeup tutorial - and since I'm in the Middle East, why not grab some of her cosmetics from her makeup line?

Headed straight to Sephora at Villagio Mall and unfortunately, most of the items were not instock. Especially her eyeshadow palette - Rose Gold Edition, that seems to be out of stock EVERYWHERE here in Qatar.

I went to a few Sephora outlets in Qatar, but ALL of them do not have the eyeshadow palette in stock :'(

Instead, I was looking at her Lip Strobe series, and the colours were all so gorgeous! Reviews were pretty decent for this, but I was a little hesistant about the payoff of the colour, how it'd turn out on my lips, thus I  decided to grab one of her Lip Contour Set in Trendsetter & Bombshell to try out.

The Lip Contour Set consists of one Lip Liner and two Lip Strobes to create her signature, favourite look. Note that the lip strobes are miniature sizes, so it's great if you're looking to just give it a try!

I love the packaging of her lip strobes though. It feels very classy and is easy to open.
Her Lip Contour Pencil is easy pretty much any other lip pencils, but the colour is super beautiful.

As taught by Huda herself, it is best to line the lips by creating an X at your cupid's bow first, after which you line the entire lip and fill your lips with the Huda Beauty Lip Strobe. As for this Contour Set, I put on Trendsetter first, before dabbing Bombshell on the inner corner of my lips to create a pouty look.

Verdict
The colours are super gorgeous to create an everyday, nude, chic yet not over the top kind of look. It stays true to its promise, there was no colour transfer when I drank from my cup (unlike Colourpop) and it stayed on for a good 3-4 hours. I wore it to TGIF for dinner, and by the end of dinner, 30% of the colour was still there!

If you've been thinking about it for the longest time, I'd say GO FOR IT!

I can't wait to check out her other makeup products as well. xx

Beauty Review: STYLE 71 Shiny Air Cushion Foundation

Tuesday, August 23, 2016

I've been spending so much on online shopping that I dread looking at my credit card bill when the statement comes every beginning of the month. Y'know, it feels like the monthly cycle that women always experience. Hahahaha.

Anyway I've been eye-ing on this new cushion foundation - Style 71 Shiny Air Cushion Foundation that provides sun protection of SPF 50+; so basically it's 2-in-1: Foundation + Sunscreen!

Apparently they are also the makers of IOPE, the infamous cushion that's rock the cushion world.

In my opinion, the worst performing cushion has gotta be Laneige! It can barely last up to 4 hours on my combination skin, and at the end of the day I look like a total mess; as if someone's smeared flour all over it. Blah. Moonshot is a tad too moisturising for me - but perfect for dry weather. I applied it everyday when I was in China (including hiking in the snow hahaha) and coverage was pretty good. #dontjudge

Why cushion foundation?

Probably the most convenient make-up invented till date! I usually have 30 minutes to spare after bathing in the morning, and my whole entire makeup routine takes up too much time. By the time I start applying my compact powder to mattify the face, I'd be super late for work.

Thus - Cushion is my ultimate saviour!

These days I can just keep snoozing (lol) and wake up late, knowing that the time taken to do my makeup has drastically reduced by 15 minutes :P

Back to Style 71 - they offer two types:

1) Full Cover Luxury Cushion
2) Mist Cover Luxury Cushion

After reading the reviews, I finally decided on Mist Cover Luxury Cushion mainly because of my combination skin. My cheeks and sides of the nose are really sensitive and dry whereas my T-zone can get oily as well.

Here's the comparison:

What really attracted me was their packaging.

I have a thing for bling bling, and they're really gorgeous!!

Gorgeous designs (Style 71 Shiny Air Cushion Foundation)

Now I have the chio-est cushion cover in the girls' toilet! *flips hair*
Muhahahhaa.

Anyway, I placed my order for the teal cover with pink sakura flowers :)

And it finally arrived in the mailbox just last night!!! Super happy when I opened the parcel. So gorgeous and I couldn't wait to try out!

Gorgeous packaging. And it has a very premium feel to it.

I guaranteed you - it's even prettier in real life.

I was quite shocked when I first pressed into the cushion, because quite a fair bit came out!

The shade I got in was #23, because I (think) I'm pretty tan and I hate it when after applying makeup, my face is fairer than my body -_-

One thing though - the puff that came with it was a little stiff, which I didn't quite like. Think it'd be best to get your own puff and apply it. I love how smooth and hydrating the cushion foundation was! (yet not greasy at the same time)

The coverage was mad good, like really really good.
I had a pimple mark just right below my chin, and it managed to conceal it flawlessly. Impressive.

Usually after applying cushion foundation, I'd top it off with powder to mattify my face - and in this case, I used Innisfree Compact Powder

At 9am: In the office. My cheek has some freckles + scars from my previous pimple outbreak, but the cushion has managed to cover them effortlessly. (Btw, I really love the Etude House blusher! Super kawaii)

At 9pm: After gym and a whole day at work. The coverage has slightly faded, but nevertheless still good.

My T-zone still get a little oily, but only probably after 6 hours I'd say?

Though nothing can win my Smashbox foundation, I gotta say that this is a pretty impressive product.

And with that price tag?
Take my money!

In conclusion, here's my rating:

Coverage: 8/10
Lasting Powder: 7/10
Value: 9/10
Gorgeousness: 10000000 (LOL)

Shopee Hauls: Best Finds under $10!

Friday, August 05, 2016

Been the most stressful week ever at work. :( Thus I've been de-stressing myself with Shopee!

If you don't already know, Shopee is the up and coming Qoo10! Been shopping on it every single day because their time sale are crazy. Crazy like $1.50 for CABLES with no additional charge with free shipping!

Recently, I managed to grab Kose Sekkisei's Clear Whitening Mask at only $9.90 during one of their timesale events! (Was $12.90, but I had a $3 discount code too!)

One of the best-selling product among their range, this mask helps to get rid of blackheads, white heads and impurities in your skin! I used to do 3-4 times a week, but lately have been busy so my skin is kind of INFESTED with whiteheads. :(

I used to use Daiso's charcoal mask, but I reckon their formulation has changed because it is so watery now and doesn't stick well!
Have been wanting to try Kose's and when I saw it on timesale on Shopee, I knew I had to get it!

Goodbye to whiteheads!

Taken after gym sesh and cleansing my face. It's pretty gooey like glue, and dries up on your face after 15-20 mins and that's when you can peel it off! So shiok to see all that gunky stuffs on the sheet. Lol.. Might be my holygrail mask afterall. :) It is rather cooling on the face as well! And my pores are visibly smaller & cleaner after doing the mask.

Here are some other products that I've gotten at real GOOD prices from Shopee as well!
Best finds under $10

Spaghetti Knit Top at only $3!! And the material is damn awesome as well.
Omg this is CHEAPER than bugis street. Hahaha. #budgetbarbie

My favourite eyebrow pencil - Etude House Drawing Eyebrow at only $2.90. And yes, free shipping.
I won't doubt the authenticity, because it works as well as those that are bought instore.

Omg my favourite purchase. Hello kitty toilet paper! Pangsai also happy with these cute Hello Kitty Prints.
$1/roll.

Hello Kitty Wireless Mouse. I got the one in pink, and it's really gorgeous in real life. Comes with warranty as well. Guess how much? $4.90. Free Shipping.
WHERE TO FIND MOUSE AT $4.90 YOU TELL ME.

SK-II Signs Eye Mask. $1.90. Nothing to say.

Being the budget barbie, I love trial samples~ And 4 sachets of this Buckwheat Green Tea & Coffee was only $0.10. Free shipping. Mmhmm, I know right.

I remember buying it from my favourite Japanese mart at Suntec at a promotional price of 2 for $12.
Over here at Shopee, they ran a timesale and I managed to grab this at $3.99! Almost half the price of the so-called promotional price. -_-
And I ate them all within 1 day.

Best loot? INNIS FREE MASK!
Any 4 for only $3, and that works out to be only $0.75/pc!
As compared to their stores which are selling at $2/pc.

My favourite online store now, without a doubt.

Shopee, thank you for letting me try so many products at such affordable prices. Yay~

Check out their daily timesales here!

Everyday Skincare/Makeup Routine

Sunday, July 19, 2015

Hey guys!

I'm so sorry. I know I've been saying this over and over again but it's been MONTHS since I last blogged. (Think I said that a few months back?) I'm now back full-force with lots of contents to share with y'all.

My last update was January 2015 ~_~  But blogging once in a blue's not gonna happen anymore. I'll be blogging every now and then, especially since I've been spending the entire day trying to learn about my camera's functions - aperture, ISO, etc.

If you're really keen to see what I'm up to everyday, just follow me on Instagram! ;)

So if you're wondering what's happened from Jan all the way till now... A quick summary of what I've been up to:
  • Just got back from Thailand again! This time, it was really an adventure - did mostly island hopping :)
  • Got a full-time job as a marketing executive and I'm really loving every minute of it! Fine.. not every minute la but the passion is THERE. :P

Since there's really a lot of things I'm gonna be updating about, thought I'd like to share my skincare/makeup routine is like :)

People who has known me for ages know how easily my skin will break out / get irritated, which is why buying skincare can be a pain in the ass as I don't know which product don't really work out  well for me. I've got both sensitive and combination skin, and recently things went downhill when I broke out really bad. Like really, really bad. The pimples spreaded across my face, decided to go bonkers and left dark, horrible scars that seems like it's never ever going away. I tried everything - weird homemade masks, changed my lifestyle, what I ate, bought expensive skincare, scar gels and what not.

The only thing that really worked..... was my beloved Jorubi Aloe Vera gel. 100% natural, it soothed the angry pimples and my scars are getting a lot less visible now!

Of course, paired with a proper skincare regime and diet, my skin got a lot better and makeup glides on a lot smoother right now :)

 1. Tone - Sekkisei Lotion

Basically it's a lightweight toner that smells like baby powder. It's supposedly infused with oriental herbs to help promote a luminous, radiant skin. I've only started using this for a week, and I can see the vast difference! My pores are getting a lot less visible and my skin's getting more luminous ;)

 2. Moisturise - Innisfree Green Tea Fresh Cream

I got it from Qoo10 when they had a timesale. Didn't have much expectation for Korean skincare.. especially when it comes to moisturiser since my impression is that it's always super over moisturising. My skin can't take that! Surprisingly this turns out to be pretty lightweight yet moisturising at the same time. It does smell a teeny weeny funny but so far, it's been making my skin behave ;)

One step that I missed out - My Jorubi Aloe Vera Gel. Usually I'd just apply after the moisturing part to help soothe the redness on my face :)

Makeup

As for makeup, I really like my daily makeup to be as natural as possible but yet chic at the same time! Don't get me wrong - I love dolling up, especially for special occasions ;) Special occasions will call for falsies, highlighting & contouring, bold lipsticks and more intense eyeshadow colours. I try not to use foundation daily as they tend to clog pores, so be sure to use a good makeup remover! I use Biore's oil makeup remover :)

1. Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray

This is my holy grail of all. I'll never be out of the house without this if I was going to club. I can skip primer (just kidding) and just use this. This awesome bottle of goodness is usually used at the last part after makeup's all done. Just give your face a few spritz and watch your makeup stay on your face (even after a night of intense clubbing) and your makeup won't even budge!

2. Urban Decay Naked 2 Eyeshadow Palette

Hands down my favourite eyeshadow colours of all eyeshadows in the world. Consisting of neutral to bold colours, there's a colour for any occasion! It's an all-in-one; the light colours I'd use them to highlight my brow bones, eyes while the dark ones can be used for contouring and create bold looks for the eyes :) I use the colours EVERYDAY. Kid you not.

3. Smashbox 15 Hours Hydrating Foundation

After discovering this, I don't think I'm going back to Makeup Forever HD Foundation. The staying power for this is really awesome - the only complaint I have for this is that it dries off too fast! But other than that, the coverage is awesome and a bottle goes a long way :) And it stays true to its claim - 15 hours of coverage and even longer if you use Urban Decay's All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray.

4. Makeup Forever HD Primer

I got this as part of the Makeup Forever starter kit, and I've been loving this ever since! Not only does it smells really nice, it helps to minimize the appearances of my pores and help makeup glide on really smoothly :)

ZA Perfect Fit Concealer

I've been using this since I was 12. yes.. 10 years and I haven't changed my concealer since. Switched to Faceshop's concealer stick and a few other brands, but I find myself coming back to this concealer every single time. It doesn't crease and budge, and it's only less than $15! My necessity.

Recently purchased Etude House Drawing Eyebrow in brown from Qoo10. I'm not a fan of korean makeup but this really took me by surprise. The colour is really pretty pigmented and comes off nicely. There's a brush at the other end of the tip that helps you achieve the korean eyebrow (straight and bushy) yet sophiscated at the same time.

Another one of my holy grail drug store makeup will have to be Wet n Wild Eyeshadow in Walking on Eggshells. I've been re-purchasing it again and again and I don't see any reason not to buy it! I use it to highlight the inner corner of my eyes, above my lips and my brow bone to achieve the more-defined look.

Moving away from Makeup Forever's HD Finishing Powder, I'm currently using Tarte's Finishing Powder. It's a lot more compact as I can just use the brush inside the packaging. I'm not too sure how to feel about this as it doesn't last long (it's about $38!) and not too wallet-friendly and the brush can get pretty tricky to use if you're a beginner. What I do is that I'll use my kabuki brush and just brush it over my face.

TonyMoly Petite Bunny Gloss Bar

I have nothing but FULL OF PRAISES for this petite "lipstick." It smells like the best thing ever on earth (Yea.. I've got a soft spot for things that smell nice :P) Though they call it a gloss bar, the colour is really gorgeous and pigmented, and it stays on pretty long considering that it's just a lipbalm/semi lipstick. (2~3 hours) It's so good I bought it again and in 2 more different shades.

Esprique Bright Lasting Rouge

One of the most moisturising lipstick I've ever used, the colour is really pigmented and stays on well too! It doesn't settle onto your lip lines like other matte lipsticks do. It's also not too matte but not too glossy either. Just the perfect texture. As it's pretty bold, I only use it for special occasions :)

That's all about my skincare/makeup routine. Hope you guys enjoy as much as I did blogging about it!

Hope this post will help you with deciding on which makeup products to go for when you're at Sephora ;)
Can't wait to share more about my adventures in my next post!

Reviews & Happenings in June (Father's Day and Food trip!)

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

I finally got my first part-time pay that actually exceeds $1k!
Well, I guess I got pretty excited when I saw the figure in my bank that NOW, AS OF 18 JUNE, I am only left with $100+ in my bank. AND YES I CAN HEAR THAT HUGE GASP FROM YOU.

It's crazy how much I've been spending.. I paid for things that I guess I really didn't need, I paid for things that were on promotion, and some sports apparel, my healthy groceries, my bills, etc..... and boom! I'm left with only $100 for 10 days in this month :(

One of my most expensive buy this month was this Makeup Forever Starter kit (retailing at $155 at Sephora) that comes with their primer, HD foundation brush, and their HD powder!

It's a good buy! I love their foundation and with the application of the primer and the HD powder, everything glides on perfectly. But honestly I feel that there's not much difference in terms of coverage between my Revlon Colorstay and the MUFE foundation though. They cover well and glides on with a pretty touch.  However Revlon is thicker in its texture, thus it can be cakey when applied generously but MUFE is of a much thinner texture. I'm still using both of them for different occasions :)

I applied the MUFE foundation for my grandma's 80th birthday.. As you can see, the difference is not very huge as compared to my previous posts of me having Revlon's foundation on.

Anyway, June is a pretty much expensive month for me especially it's also Father's Day!
Took Papa out for dinner and movie at 112 Katong!

We had our dinner at Old Hong Kong Tea House :)

Papa having his bittergourd pork rice.

And my instant noodle with egg and cheese and chicken cutlet! (this is not bad actually)

Dear's pork rice (Was super disappointed cos it is WAY too bland)

My brother made it in time from Harbourfront! When I called him, he was still at Vivo at 7.30 pm -_- but he managed to reach 112 Katong at 8.10pm! Woohoo ^^

Ordered some dim sums such as pan fried dumplings, siew mai, and others together with our mains -_- It was so filling please!

Siew Mai

Cheese Baked Rice (which took 30 minutes to come, wtf)

I wouldn't recommend people to go there at all damnit. The food pretty much sucks, and so does the service. I had to wait 30 minutes for my drink too... And they took 15 minutes just to tell me that my drink is not available! Zzz. Plus the restaurant was hot and stuffy.. Bad experience :/

After that, we caught our movie at 9pm, Man of Steel! It was soooooooooo good! I loved the storyline and I love it when the evil guy dies in the movie :P

The guy was pretty hot too... *Drools*

Gotta catch it! Anyway I'm really super happy that Golden Village has taken the initiative to take one step further and implement english subtitles for certain movies at some of their cinemas. It really helps the hearing impaired community a lot and watching movie is quite important since you can learn and educate yourself at the same time.

With this action, Dear and I have much more movies to watch now! A big thank you to Golden Village.

Had an enjoyable night with the three men in the family :)

Love them too much! And my mum who's in Malaysia now T_T

And just one last photo before we hit the sack....... :p

Yesterday (Monday) was soooooooo hazy! We were on our way to Johor for some yummy food but it was so hot! Thanks to the haze -_-

Nevertheless, it wasn't dampening our mood to get some kickass paper baked herbal chicken for lunch!

I blogged about wanting to go Teck Sing's restaurant to eat their signature paper baked herbal chicken (a few posts back) but unfortunately, it was closed that day. This time when we went, Teck Sing was open! Super happy that we get to eat their herbal chicken finally!!!!!!! WOOP

Signature Paper Baked Herbal Chicken (RM 18)

This was so damn good!!!! Honestly one of the best I've ever had. The fragrance, the aroma, the taste was just right that Dear and I ended up digging for more (even though there wasn't any meat left :P)

Fu Yong Egg (RM 6/8)

This is a common dish I'd normally order at most chinese restaurants. I love Fu Yong egg! It goes well with anything you order :)

Stir fried Brinjal aka Egg plant (RM 8... erm I kinda forgot)

I don't really like eating egg plant but this dish was definitely GOOD! Dear ate them all (though I had a few pieces) and he said this was really good!

HAPPY MEAL! :)

With all the recommendations, they were even featured on Singapore's magazines before!

The interior, a rather normal Chinese restaurant setting

Had such a great lunch that we didn't even regret coming and getting stuck at the customs because of the lunch jam for 30 minutes.

After that, we went to KSL Mall to shop around, got my organic chia seeds from Nature Health Farm, got his hair cut by a new hair salon (It's only RM 28 with hair wash; their opening promotion) and went to get his car washed!

What'd y'all think? His hair looks so much better! And more handsome now hehehe sorry but he's mine yo

In my favourite pair of wedges again! This is so comfy I can prolly do my bodycombat in it HAHAHA

Some camwhoringgggggg omg I look like a man here -_-

We went to City Square Mall next to walk around too, and I got some DHC products at only RM 10 each wtf!!!! It's a steal since they were clearing stocks and I just happened to spot their tiny sale section HAHAHAHA. Yes I am budget barbie and I love itttt.

Got my pore lotion and acerola extract for only RM 20 for both! Which costs only SGD 9? And I bought it from Watsons :)

Dear also got his branded authentic caps (Rebel etc) for only RM 60 each cos the shop was having some clearance too! Compared to the one he bought in Bangkok which costed him SGD 60+.. Mad expensive -_-

Quite a lot of promotions in City Square now so gotta go fast before the deals are over guys!!!!!

Anyway, City Square just recently opened a few shops at the top level which is mostly cafes / restaurants.. Am tempted to try the brunch menu at Delicious but Dear was abit skeptical about the quality and taste. :(

Hmm, but there's this new concept cafe (which is similar to Taiwan's) called T Bowl and it is so cute!!!!
The cafe concept is that everything is designed as if they're in the toilet! Especially the seats (toilet seats), soup, noodles, ramen are served in toilet bowls, and so many more! Super duper cute!

They kinda have a mix of western, asian, all types of food available.

 The interior

And yes, the seats!

Oh well, there're a few seats outside too.. :P

And "toilets" are supposed to have mirrors right? ;)

And the counter is in the shape of a bathtub!

Am going to visit this cafe during our next visit to City Square. Too cute to resist! And hopefully, the food taste as good as what they claim to be..

It's located at the last level of City Square :)

Dear and I eventually had our dinner at Sakae Sushi (Yes there's one in JB) and yum, the quality was still rather good! I loved the chanwanmushi and I had 2 bowls of it. LOL. Dear had the sushis on the conveyor belt and also, a bento set -_- I was wondering how he could finish all that food..

They're having a promotion for Citibank card holders, 1-for-1 pink plates so we had 6 plates of it, but paid for only 3 :)

Had such satisfying meals in JB and I can't wait for our next visit again!
