Healthy Lifestyle / Maki-San / Merely Ice-Cream

I hate Apple. *just joking*
Why did they come up with iPhone?! I'm thankful to them for its user-friendly features but it's too friendly..
I've been so lazy to take photos with my S100 because my iPhone 5 always comes in handy! So in case my loyal readers don't see me updating my blog too often, follow me on Instagram! @gladyspng :)

I'm going to make it a habit to blog soon after every event.

Anyway, I've been trying to maintain my healthy and fit lifestyle (eating healthy - 70%, indulgence - 30%) ever since getting interviewed by the Straits Times Lifestyle editor. Hehe. Yes, I do have my own clean eating recipe book too :P It's handwritten and whenever I feel like whipping up a clean dessert/main course, that book is literally my bible for it!

Been trying to incorporating more different workouts into my life (since I don't have to commit so much to my work anymore :D) such as strength training, yoga, exercising outdoor. It's great to try out different workouts once in a while to keep that metabolism high.

Here are some of my clean meals I had over the few weeks:
(Mostly are in my Instagram, you guys can go check it out and see my feed)

Oats in a Jar
Don't be deceived by its plain appearance, the taste was soooo good! And I had it this morning :P

Chocolate Oats Pancakes
drizzled with Chocolate yogurt sauce sprinkled with a dash of cinnamon :)
I made this for my boyfriend!

Clean Fried Brown Rice
My all-time favourite easy clean fried rice! No hassle at all :)

Just my normal breakfast in bed: Muesli with raisins, flaxseeds and strawberries

Clean Chocolate Raw Brownie
This actually turned out pretty good! It's raw brownie (no bake required) and the main ingredients consists of only medjool dates, cocoa powder!

 Clean Chocolate Banana Ice-Cream
I love love love this combination. It's completely clean and not to mention - yummy too! I finished it off that night :P

Clean Bento Box
This was actually whipped up by my boyfriend. Lettuce with yellow capsicum, broccoli, brown rice risotto cooked in organic vegetable stock, with grilled fish! It was so good I was licking my box HAHHA

I don't usually upload every clean meal that I have (that'd be so boring seriously) because I do repeat. For example, I normally have my fried brown rice (almost) everyday for lunch. Occasionally when I feel like it I'd bake a clean pizza :)

Dear is also (trying to) maintain a healthy lifestyle but the food that he eats make me go.... omg =_="
I have this philosophy that if you're going to put the food into your body, it'd better benefit your health and taste good too. No point having a delicious meal but allowing it to harm your body.

Myself in the gym recently :p
Ever since after the Genting trip, having been slacking a little :( Especially when I workout! My knees are hurting like a bitch again so going to recover first before hitting the gym again!

Back to exercising, Dear and I went cycling 2 weeks back at Pasir Ris Park!
There were so many animals around (if you're lucky) and we spotted so many different species of birds and their nests!!

Spot the birds feeding their babies awww~

Whoop! Fresh air!
A break from the gym... which is normally filled with the smell of stale sweat and hk feet HAHA

Our bicycle :)

Despite having my clean meals, I do have treat meals too!!
I'm only human and it's normal for me to have my cravings -_- but recently, my body's been reacting badly to too much sugary stuffs. (which is GOOD in a way, HAHA)

Anyway met up with my Year 2 mates for a short dinner and a catchup at Maki-San!

Maki-San is a DIY (okay not exactly do it yourself...) sushi cafe at the basement of Cathay that allows you to customise your own sushi, from toppings, sauce to the types of rice you'd like to have. Best part is it's healthy if you choose wisely!

Of course, I chose brown rice, topped with zucchini, avocado, tempura enoki mushroom (okay not too healthy already HAHA), japanese omelette and it is sooooo good. I had teriyaki sauce drizzled over my sushi rolls which is also packed in a very pretty packaging :)

Check out my sushi rolls!

I think Maki-San is definitely worth the money (though it's really affordable - $9.90 for 8 rolls, $6.90 for 5) and they also have free green tea/ miso soup for students :)

And not to mention, it's so yummy!!!!

Anyway, after dinner, we went to Merely Ice-Cream at Sunshine Plaza as highly recommended by Eileen and Lydia. Best part was it's pretty cheap, so why not!!

It's located next to the popular small thai restaurant, and the design and layout of the ice-cream cafe was really attractive!

Super pretty!

Tried out a few flavours.. I always have my waffles with chocolate ice-cream but Merely only has alcoholic chocolate -_- Tried it and the alcohol taste was sooo strong, ewww. So I settled for butterscotch instead. It was sooo good!!

Green Tea and Butterscotch

Butterscotch and Horlicks... ( i think?) Oops my memory sucks -_-

Their tables are decorated with customers' namecards, doodles, drawings, coins, and so much more! Under the table they have magazines for customers to browse too :)

My waffle with Butterscotch ice-cream!

It's really affordable and it's good too! Maybe I'll put clean waffles in my "to-bake" list next, topped with my own clean chocolate ice-cream :P

Nevertheless, we spent the night laughing and catching up with one another :)

More to come, girls!

Okayyyyyy. Hitting the gym with my favourite class - RPM tomorrow!
Goodnight ;)

Koh Grill & Sushi Bar / Paris Baguette / Menya Musashi / Swee Choon

Friday, August 09, 2013

Omg.. It's been quite a while since I updated my blog (because of my hectic work schedule :( ) but be assured that I won't be abandoning this space anytime soon. I mean, not over my dead body hahaha.

Anyway, I just came back from my Genting trip with my boyfriend and that's another separate post to blog about! ;) That getaway was definitely much needed since I felt like I couldn't breathe in Singapore at all :( It's so boring here! I NEED A BEACH GETAWAY AGAIN THIS YEAR!!

Planning to go Langkawi/Krabi/Koh Samui/Bali this year or early next year but we'll have to see how our finances go :(

Going to blog about our dining experience at Koh Grill & Sushi Bar at Wisma Atria, Orchard!

The clouds were like cotton candy that day. Super fluffy that I wanted to jump and lie on them all day long!!

Was just bored in the car... Oh well :P

We went to Koh Grill & Sushi Bar for dinner around 8pm on a Sunday but it was already fully packed! There was also quite a long queue outside but we wanted to try the Shiok Maki that everyone was crazy over :(

Do note that it's located inside the food court so it may be a little hard to find :)

Waiting for our turn!

In less than 15 minutes, we were ushered by the waitress to our seats along the sushi bar counter where we could watch the chefs making sushi rolls for diners. Definitely our favourite seats cos we love sitting by the counter bar especially when having Japanese food!

We spotted this jar of live crabs and we couldn't help but ask the waitress how much and how to consume them. She told us the chef will cook them lightly and they're only available at different seasons of the year. I forgot the price but I remembered it to be quite costly because Dear and I gasped when she told us -_-

Dear and I ordered quite a lot cos we had a light lunch and were saving our tum tum for Koh's :(
I can't exactly recall the names (Omg jap food names are so complicated la) so plss just look at the photos!!!!! HAHAHA

I didn't have this. My boyfriend had it and he said it wasn't very good. :(

One of them being pork belly.. But it was definitely not satisfactory. We'd have something better off for the same price.

The legendary Shiok Maki that everyone is so crazy about.. I am SO SORRY but Dear and I find it completely normal. Normal is not even the word to describe this. We didn't really like it cos the eel tasted weird. And the whole combination was so soggy..  I'm not sure if it's because of the huge crowd they have to accommodate but it was definitely not what we'd expected :( So the verdict is that..... it pretty much sucked.

Stirfried Yaki Udon... and it tasted really YUCKY. Again, the whole feeling in the mouth was very soggy and it was quite bland. -_-

The trip to Koh Grill & Sushi Bar was definitely disappointing but there won't be a 2nd time 'cos I honestly doubt we will be patronising there anymore.

Anyway something random............
How'd I look as a chindian?! HAHAHA. Okay I dressed up for my colleague's wedding ok... I loved the head accessory though!

And oh yes, last month I had to send a very close friend of mine off at the airport, and it was really a last minute one :( Felt really sad.. (I always thought the happiest feeling will be at the airport since I'm so used to going airport for my flights to other countries for holidays)

Jiale, Yan Mae, Gina, me and my boyfriend

Look at her 'fan club' behind her!

A final photo together before she leaves Singapore for a long 3 years :( So going to miss that woman. We're always arguing but that's what makes our friendship so fun and strong :')

Last week, I got to go Paris Baguette (FINALLY) with Xinyi!
We wanted to have our high tea at Paris Baguette and their pastries and cakes all looked so pretty in our friends' IG photos :(

Of course.. the first thing we tried was the Royal Pudding!

The Original Royal Pudding and the Mango Pudding

After having it, both Xinyi and my stomach started getting a little funny. I guess it was because the sweetness of the pudding was absolutely OVERWHELMING.  As a sweet lover myself, I couldn't even handle the sweetness. It was way too sweet for our bodies, or even anyone's bodies. It was like having sugar on its own! The taste was good.. but it's just too sweet.

 Baked Apple and Cinnamon Pastry

I found it pretty good, the taste was really awesome but the apple was alittle too soggy. Overall I still liked it, but Xinyi stopped at the 2nd mouth 'cos she didn't feel too comfortable with the sogginess of the apple :p

Au Chocolat Croissant

This was really good. The sweetness was just right and the outer layer of the croissant was crispy. Love it!

And I was really happy to meet this girl after what seems to be like a million years -_-

Paris Baguette is originated from Korea for your information. Hahaha anyway we took the jars home cos they were too cute!!

After high tea, we had ramen for dinner!
Had a hard time deciding what to eat since we were still quite full from our high tea :(

We walked the entire Orchard Ion and settled down at Menya Musashi, clearly attracted by the menu and the awards they've received. And it didn't fail us! :D

The crispy tofu skin is their specialty.. And it was really awesome! Xinyi's Duck Ramen.

And the portion they served was quite generous, and the food wasn't very pricey either :) My Chashu Ramen.

Verdict was that it's really good! But I find Santouka still the best for its shio ramen.. it's literally shiokness with every mouth I take :P

After dinner, I met up with my boyfriend and his friends, Mike and Tina for supper -_-
Yes I'm a glutton.. I can't stop eating even though I'm full :P

We had Swee Choon for supper!
Portugese Egg Tarts, Mee Sua Kueh, Siew Mai

We actually ordered a lot more like their signature Har Gaw, pancake roll with chicken floss, lor mai kai, custard buns, and some others I can't seem to remember :P

I think their best signature dishes are definitely their Har Gaw, custard buns, mee sua kueh, and not forgetting their Portugese Egg tarts! Every bite was like a piece of heaven ~~

But Dear and I thought that in terms of Chee Cheong Fun, nobody can beat 126's. Their prawn and char siew Chee Cheong fun is definitely the BEST at 126. (搵到食) Ahhhhh.

Alright, after all these unhealthy eating, I'm back to my clean eating fitspo life again! Especially after that 4 days of indulgence in Genting :(
Eating unhealthily has made my health a lot more worse so I'm going to tweak my body back to how it used to be - healthy and strong for long gym sessions! :P

So eat healthily people, and allow yourself to eat these treat meals once or twice a week ;)

Reviews & Happenings in June (Father's Day and Food trip!)

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

I finally got my first part-time pay that actually exceeds $1k!
Well, I guess I got pretty excited when I saw the figure in my bank that NOW, AS OF 18 JUNE, I am only left with $100+ in my bank. AND YES I CAN HEAR THAT HUGE GASP FROM YOU.

It's crazy how much I've been spending.. I paid for things that I guess I really didn't need, I paid for things that were on promotion, and some sports apparel, my healthy groceries, my bills, etc..... and boom! I'm left with only $100 for 10 days in this month :(

One of my most expensive buy this month was this Makeup Forever Starter kit (retailing at $155 at Sephora) that comes with their primer, HD foundation brush, and their HD powder!

It's a good buy! I love their foundation and with the application of the primer and the HD powder, everything glides on perfectly. But honestly I feel that there's not much difference in terms of coverage between my Revlon Colorstay and the MUFE foundation though. They cover well and glides on with a pretty touch.  However Revlon is thicker in its texture, thus it can be cakey when applied generously but MUFE is of a much thinner texture. I'm still using both of them for different occasions :)

I applied the MUFE foundation for my grandma's 80th birthday.. As you can see, the difference is not very huge as compared to my previous posts of me having Revlon's foundation on.

Anyway, June is a pretty much expensive month for me especially it's also Father's Day!
Took Papa out for dinner and movie at 112 Katong!

We had our dinner at Old Hong Kong Tea House :)

Papa having his bittergourd pork rice.

And my instant noodle with egg and cheese and chicken cutlet! (this is not bad actually)

Dear's pork rice (Was super disappointed cos it is WAY too bland)

My brother made it in time from Harbourfront! When I called him, he was still at Vivo at 7.30 pm -_- but he managed to reach 112 Katong at 8.10pm! Woohoo ^^

Ordered some dim sums such as pan fried dumplings, siew mai, and others together with our mains -_- It was so filling please!

Siew Mai

Cheese Baked Rice (which took 30 minutes to come, wtf)

I wouldn't recommend people to go there at all damnit. The food pretty much sucks, and so does the service. I had to wait 30 minutes for my drink too... And they took 15 minutes just to tell me that my drink is not available! Zzz. Plus the restaurant was hot and stuffy.. Bad experience :/

After that, we caught our movie at 9pm, Man of Steel! It was soooooooooo good! I loved the storyline and I love it when the evil guy dies in the movie :P

The guy was pretty hot too... *Drools*

Gotta catch it! Anyway I'm really super happy that Golden Village has taken the initiative to take one step further and implement english subtitles for certain movies at some of their cinemas. It really helps the hearing impaired community a lot and watching movie is quite important since you can learn and educate yourself at the same time.

With this action, Dear and I have much more movies to watch now! A big thank you to Golden Village.

Had an enjoyable night with the three men in the family :)

Love them too much! And my mum who's in Malaysia now T_T

And just one last photo before we hit the sack....... :p

Yesterday (Monday) was soooooooo hazy! We were on our way to Johor for some yummy food but it was so hot! Thanks to the haze -_-

Nevertheless, it wasn't dampening our mood to get some kickass paper baked herbal chicken for lunch!

I blogged about wanting to go Teck Sing's restaurant to eat their signature paper baked herbal chicken (a few posts back) but unfortunately, it was closed that day. This time when we went, Teck Sing was open! Super happy that we get to eat their herbal chicken finally!!!!!!! WOOP

Signature Paper Baked Herbal Chicken (RM 18)

This was so damn good!!!! Honestly one of the best I've ever had. The fragrance, the aroma, the taste was just right that Dear and I ended up digging for more (even though there wasn't any meat left :P)

Fu Yong Egg (RM 6/8)

This is a common dish I'd normally order at most chinese restaurants. I love Fu Yong egg! It goes well with anything you order :)

Stir fried Brinjal aka Egg plant (RM 8... erm I kinda forgot)

I don't really like eating egg plant but this dish was definitely GOOD! Dear ate them all (though I had a few pieces) and he said this was really good!

HAPPY MEAL! :)

With all the recommendations, they were even featured on Singapore's magazines before!

The interior, a rather normal Chinese restaurant setting

Had such a great lunch that we didn't even regret coming and getting stuck at the customs because of the lunch jam for 30 minutes.

After that, we went to KSL Mall to shop around, got my organic chia seeds from Nature Health Farm, got his hair cut by a new hair salon (It's only RM 28 with hair wash; their opening promotion) and went to get his car washed!

What'd y'all think? His hair looks so much better! And more handsome now hehehe sorry but he's mine yo

In my favourite pair of wedges again! This is so comfy I can prolly do my bodycombat in it HAHAHA

Some camwhoringgggggg omg I look like a man here -_-

We went to City Square Mall next to walk around too, and I got some DHC products at only RM 10 each wtf!!!! It's a steal since they were clearing stocks and I just happened to spot their tiny sale section HAHAHAHA. Yes I am budget barbie and I love itttt.

Got my pore lotion and acerola extract for only RM 20 for both! Which costs only SGD 9? And I bought it from Watsons :)

Dear also got his branded authentic caps (Rebel etc) for only RM 60 each cos the shop was having some clearance too! Compared to the one he bought in Bangkok which costed him SGD 60+.. Mad expensive -_-

Quite a lot of promotions in City Square now so gotta go fast before the deals are over guys!!!!!

Anyway, City Square just recently opened a few shops at the top level which is mostly cafes / restaurants.. Am tempted to try the brunch menu at Delicious but Dear was abit skeptical about the quality and taste. :(

Hmm, but there's this new concept cafe (which is similar to Taiwan's) called T Bowl and it is so cute!!!!
The cafe concept is that everything is designed as if they're in the toilet! Especially the seats (toilet seats), soup, noodles, ramen are served in toilet bowls, and so many more! Super duper cute!

They kinda have a mix of western, asian, all types of food available.

 The interior

And yes, the seats!

Oh well, there're a few seats outside too.. :P

And "toilets" are supposed to have mirrors right? ;)

And the counter is in the shape of a bathtub!

Am going to visit this cafe during our next visit to City Square. Too cute to resist! And hopefully, the food taste as good as what they claim to be..

It's located at the last level of City Square :)

Dear and I eventually had our dinner at Sakae Sushi (Yes there's one in JB) and yum, the quality was still rather good! I loved the chanwanmushi and I had 2 bowls of it. LOL. Dear had the sushis on the conveyor belt and also, a bento set -_- I was wondering how he could finish all that food..

They're having a promotion for Citibank card holders, 1-for-1 pink plates so we had 6 plates of it, but paid for only 3 :)

Had such satisfying meals in JB and I can't wait for our next visit again!
